What are you thankful for?

As the sun sets upon my corner of the world, I cannot help but feel grateful for the sweet summery breeze outside, the smell of chamomile tea and the comfort of my home.

Disperse your light!

‘Let light shine out of darkness.’
2 Corinthians 4:6

At 299 792 458 meters per second, light waves travel through time and space faster than anything else known to man, yet seeming so incomprehensible to our human mind. Crossing deep darkness, the sun’s light does the impossible to reach us and bring a bright new day.

Sadly, it is common knowledge that the overused saying that ‘nobody is perfect’ serves as an excuse too many times when caught into a corner; sometimes, it resonates with most of us when instead of an honourable reply, we realise we haven’t risen to the challenge – for reasons (un)known.

Most of the time, it is an acceptance of our own limitations, when no matter how hard you’ve worked, how sleep deprived you may be because of the things that ‘had to get done’ before the next day … someone may still find fault in you.

‘Let light shine out of darkness’ reminds us that despite us never conquering perfection, we are still capable of great things. The potential is there, deep inside you – so claim your blessings and start making an impact!

If light photons travel 299 792 458 meters per second just to give us a new start, how much more are you capable of when you’re considered the crown of creation ?

So no matter how far you have to travel, how deep you have to search, starting now, BE BOLD and allow your inner light not only to shine but to disperse blessings on everything and everyone around you, friends, family, neighbours even those you consider enemies. Keep doing your best and if needed, BE BRAVE enough to change direction. Curb your path so that you have time for what truly matters in this world, because there is Someone who will always believe in you and not search fault when you’re following with a pure open heart.

So that at the end of the journey, when light shines through you will have realised that you too, have planted a few rainbows here and there …

Pleased

“You are my child, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” – Luke 3:22

With you I am well pleased…

I remember when I was a child, my dad used to tell me that there was nothing I could ever do to change the way he feels about me. Now, sure this sounds great when you are asking for forgiveness and growing up, there seemed to be numerous occasions when unconditional parental love played a vital role in my life – however, it got me thinking, is it truly an easy thing to constantly offer? Despite repeated mistakes? Despite hurt feelings that come with that?

We are all trying to become our best version of ourselves, working hard, training intensely, even eating healthy but what about our souls? Before you judge yourself, take a moment to remember this:

You are loved.

You already are forgiven.

Are we able to bestow forgiveness on those who need it most? Or some things ‘are just unforgivable’ as many of us may think at one time or another…

Why is it that the one thing we seem to crave the most is the most difficult to offer?

Today is a reminder that someone will always be there to offer unconditional love, forgiveness and ultimately, hope that we can be better if only we learn to live unselfishly.

You are loved.

You are forgiven.

You have a family.

The Box

undefined

There it was – small, with crooked edges and a slight layer of dust on top, the box that travelled from home.

It took less than twenty-fours for this much awaited box to cross over the continent and arrive safely at their doorstep. Its short journey was just as much a surprise as were its contents. Everybody anticipated what it would comprise and everybody was silently impressed with what they discovered. It may sound silly to anyone reading this, but haven’t you ever been surprised by the ordinary?

The middle aged woman was almost frantically searching for the prescription to be inside: would the doctor’s note be somewhere in there too? had the pharmacist included the right dosage by the right company? No, it wasn’t an addiction fuelling all these questions but the health condition that sometimes seemed to ameliorate or worsen by the passing of each second and worry. She was happy however, and loved her presents too: a silky peach coloured top that seemed made of one piece of fabric solely, flowing loosely around her body and a pair of trousers that she probably wasn’t going to wear because the style was too business-daring and a bit too fit for her delicate taste.

The youngest was perhaps the most touched by her presents as she started reminiscing whilst clutching on to the gifts that reminded her of home. No, not in a sentimental sort of way, but in a gentle appreciation she felt for everything her home still meant to her: faith in face of adversity because this was what both shaped and prepared her to fulfil her destiny, working towards helping the unwell and the sick among us, especially those for whom there seems to be little hope. This overwhelmed her at times and caused her petite figure to slim down even more which worried everyone in the family, though she was tiny but fierce.

My presents? Seeing everyone else enjoy theirs, feeling their joy, anticipation, melancholy and strain for hope from that box.

Wondering what’s inside? The contents may seem irrelevant to anyone else but those they were intended for, to know that someone else, somewhere else thinks of you and shared their joy with you when you received the box. No matter how small you think your gesture might be, you can never even begin to comprehend its impact, until you learn that there is still joy and find a re-affirming sense of hope even in the ordinary.
